That’s right:

"You go on your social media feeds, and you know, nurses and they're having parties every night - and they're not respecting what the medical community is telling you what to do.”

That’s what Delray Beach Florida City Commissioner Adam Frankel is telling the people he represents. Last Thursday he thought it was a good idea to do a podcast from a bar, the Tin Roof in Delray Beach, on a podcast series they are doing called “6 Feet Apart.”  He did the podcast with a local chiropractor named Andre Fladell.

Here is the billing that was posted on the bar’s Facebook page:

“Dr. Andre. Fladell and Delray Beach City Commissioner Adam Frankel join us for a first weekly live podcast, the first in the series is called six feet apart. The topic for discussion is the covid 19 virus, what the government should and shouldn't be doing, how it is Changing Life as We Know It and how it is affecting economy from the country to the individual.”

Locals knew this was going to be a disaster, and they were correct.

Here are some of the comments left on social media that weren’t posts about nurse parties:

From one nurse:

”Yes, definitely having a party everynight after I’ve worked with Covid-19 patients for 15 hours and haven’t seen my family in days .. This is in fact what nurses all over the country are doing right now . We only throw these parties in between playing cards..”

And another nurse:

“I just couldn’t think about this any more last night...his statement is ignorant and disgusting...while he is sleeping still sleeping in bed healthcare providers are getting ready for work—and many with a pit in their stomach—wondering what today holds.

There’s nothing like getting a phone call saying you have a possible exposure and details are needed about your exposure to the patient...and you’ve seen so many patients you can’t remember...and then you think about everyone you have come into contact with since that possible exposure ...patients not a problem as you are using PPE, but your loved ones...was I at least 6 feet away from them every time I have seen them since??? and you want to vomit...true story...happened to me last week..”

The Commission seats in Delray Beach are non-partisan. The terms last 3 years. Frankel is up for reelection next year. He termed out and sat out a couple years and ran again for this seat. It’s really embarrassing he would choose to belittle the nursing profession now, of all times!

If you want to watch the whole podcast (I didn’t) it’s on the Tin Roof, Delray Beach Facebook page.
